Here’s a shocker, I attended Catholic School for the overwhelming majority of my pre-collegiate academic career. My parents went without or made do with less so that my brother and I could receive the best possible education. We wore uniforms, my grammar school uniforms is the middle skirt pictured in fact, were taught my nuns and lay people, and there was no nonsense in the classroom. We weren’t alone, most of our neighborhood attended the same Catholic school, even though there was (I’m presuming) a decent public elementary school within our neighborhood.
Now it seems, the war on religion feels free to take from the Catholic Church and sue it whenever possible. Out of Montana comes news this morning that the out of wedlock pregnant teacher that was fired in January is now suing for wrongful termination. I’m sorry WHAT? You were happy to accept a private contract, to work in a private school, for the Catholic Church and are now outraged when you are terminated for violating your contract? You held a position of influence and power over young minds. Parents paid tuition to the school to send their children there, undoubtedly some of them made the same sacrifices and choices my parents made, for their children to receive a CATHOLIC education. Your out of wedlock pregnancy is in direct violation of the tenants of the Catholic Faith, not to mention the same sex relationship the teacher was having.
Look, I realize that society at large thinks its cool to have children without the benefit of marriage or to raise them alone. But haven’t recent events made the country look at the breakdown of the family and realize that if parents stayed married or only had children while married, the country may not be such a mess. Nope, that didn’t happen instead we get greedy lawyers suing the Church, teachers who think their contracts are meaningless, and children that are out of control. Parents WAKE UP. Children need consistency, discipline, rule guidance, and structure if you don’t want them to turn into thugs and hooligans.
Religion isn’t the enemy. Religion isn’t some great evil to keep the classes/races divided. Religion, be it Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, or moderate Islam, is not the “opiate of the masses” that Marxism and communism have taught the world to believe. For thousands of years before the world dissolved into this “progressive”, “leftist”, “liberal” mess we find ourselves in now people all over the world have practiced religion and have had better societies on the whole as a result.
Now, in what can only be described as secular first world societies across the globe we see a breakdown of the nuclear family, children without structure and guidance, legal systems bogged down in petty squabbles, and genocide of peoples that believe something different. Yes, religion has always been an excuse for war and always will be, but the benefits of religion for society far, far outweigh the dangers.
I pray that the Montana case is thrown out of court as frivolous on it’s face. The woman worked for a Catholic school and cannot possibly claim she didn’t understand the teachings of the Catholic faith as a result. To be honest, I applaud the school, the diocese and the relevant archbishop for standing up for the Church and their faith. If only more of us showed the willingness to stand up for what is right instead of caving at the first sign of the political correct police. If you are a small business being hurt by the war on religion, then by all means use social media to share the news. Share your plight and maybe together, enough reasonable minds can be found to turn the tide.
Alone it is too big a fight, together we are stronger.
