Six or seven years ago I tripped in the kitchen and went flying into the wall right thumb first. I scared the beejesus out of the dog, my parents who were over for dinner, and my husband. My thumb took all the impact and I’m lucky it didn’t break. However, it now gets very grumpy on occasion and it has no qualms in telling me when I’ve done too much of the same motion for far too long.
Monday was great. Thumb achy but I ignored it. It was chilly here and I chalked it up to that. I spent all day Monday writing. I was in the zone, words flowing like an open beer tap on a Friday night. And then Tuesday morning arrived …
Screaming agony, thumb unable to hold anything without gritting my teeth in pain. Mouse and keyboard were exercises in torture, as was a gaming controller. So, I went in search of my thumb brace and the bugger has hidden itself from me. It has run off with a dust bunny when we moved new furniture into our bedroom several months ago. No worries, I ordered new one from Amazon (different type however) and waited patiently for its arrival on Wednesday. Watched The Fall on Amazon Prime with Gillian Anderson, brilliant I must say.
No writing done on any blog or the book and my head is brimming with things that just want to be shared. Wednesday comes and the new brace sucks in comparison to the one off having a fling with a dust bunny. It is bulky and cuts off circulation. Yes it is stiffer but it impedes the ability to do anything effectively. So, it is basically useless unless I’m sitting around watching television or a baseball game on my tablet.
There is one highlight to the mess that was my week, I found the missing stitching! I tried stitching too but nope, that normal form of therapy was a no-go too. I got some work done before I capitulated to the thumb and set it aside. More work to follow in the coming weeks, I am determined to finish the Easter piece before Easter this year!
Thumb is much better today. Next time we are in Target I will be picking up a replacement thumb brace for the one off having a fling, even if it surfaces by then. I’m not stupid after all. Now, excuse me while I go give the characters in my head there chance to spill out on to your computers.
