So Leroy managed to not consume every living new organism yesterday, thankfully. However, she is till very actively hunting and I think we’ve both realized that we are going to have to get her something to hunt on a semi-regular basis so she leaves other critters alone in the tank.
As promised here is today’s follow-up regarding our experience with two different companies that provide similar services for aquarium owners. This review is based solely on our experiences with the companies and may not reflect the experiences of other customers.
Several months ago, my husband ordered live aquatic plants to add to the tank from a local source. We both believe in supporting local business whenever possible and thus it was a no brainer to order plants from the local source. After some research we placed our order with AZ Gardens online for several species of plant and a some live snails and a freshwater lobster. There is a 100% satisfaction guarantee banner plastered all over their site.
Imagine our surprise when most of the snails and the lobster were dead upon arrival. We were home at the time of shipment and accepted it directly from our UPS man. At no time did the box of plants and critters sit unattended at our front door. My husband immediately contacted the company via phone, e-mail, and text and has never heard a single word back from the company. It was not unexpected for a snail or two to die in transit, what was utterly unexpected however was the lack of communication from the company when contacted. I cannot in good conscious recommend these people to anyone looking for healthy plants and animals to arrive on your doorstep.
Yesterday our order from Live Aquaria arrived. The weather was considerably warmer than when the aforementioned company shipped us product. However, yesterday’s shipment contained living critters appropriately packaged with food and plenty of cold packs. The cold packs were still cold upon receipt. Yes there were a couple of dead ghost shrimp, but that is to be expected much like the snails in the earlier shipment.
Why did we run the risk of another internet shipment of aquarium supplies and critters? Simple, Live Aquaria is affiliated with Drs. Foster and Smith and we’ve had nothing but fantastic service from them in the past. I am very pleased with the Live Aquaria purchase and am looking forward to the live plant delivery today. Leroy may have yet another expensive salad bar treat but I’m crossing my fingers and toes that she at least leaves roots to grow and thrive in the tank this time.
