Every time I “quit” World of Warcraft to play another game, there are two characters I consistently miss and try to recreate in different games. Trying to recreate characters never works for me. Doesn’t matter if I try using different names or varying their class archetypes, the characters never feel right and I end up deleting them because there is zero emotional attachment.
When I returned to WOW two weeks ago, my how time flies, it was because other games had lost their appeal and if I was going to play a MMO it was going to be one where I cared about my characters. While I like my characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic I hated the transition from Chapter 1 to Chapter2 on my Consular and it soured the game for me immensely. So, WOW it is for now. When I returned I wanted to play the Horde side and notice where the story lines diverged from the Alliance side. However, every Horde character I start makes my skin crawl because of Garrosh. I, as a player, had respect for the character of Thrall and Thrall’s actions as leader of the Horde. Garrosh simply has nothing going for him as a leader or an Orc. Personally, if the only way to kill Garrosh is via raiding in a later patch in this expansion then I will take up raiding immediately.
My beloved priest, Pippa pictured above, is the character I started playing first on the Alliance this time. Largely because she was already 90 and had begun the faction reputation grind with various factions. But since Patch 5.2 dropped, she has the survivability of a gnat. Admittedly her gear isn’t great but she takes more dirt naps than ever before. I briefly tried my level 86 monk and while her survivability is much higher and her damage per second is almost that of Pippa, there is no deep emotional attachment like there is with Pippa.
This morning, I took my very first WOW character out of resting and played her (header picture). Penelopa and her stable of pets is my favorite character of all time. She makes me smile and that’s all I needed. Penelopa is going back to being my main character. I will play my stable of alts, but Pen is my main.
