I love both of these books, so why are they being listed under this question? Quite simply because they have followings that are based on both the books and the movies that surround them. People make assumptions about your reading habits based on inclusion of these books which may or may not be accurate.
The Potter books are immersive and a great way to turn a non-reading child into a reader. I have read the entire series and I loved all the books. They make you cry and laugh and cheer for the good guys.
I couldn’t read The Hobbit growing up. I never got past the first five pages before moving on to something else more interesting. I hate the Lord of the Rings movies when they were released too. Then I got married and DH was a fan. He was also shocked to learn I hadn’t at least read The Hobbit. Then last year he bought be a very nice copy of The Hobbit to supplement my lack of fantasy background for gaming and novels. I’m very thankful I’ve read it now. I can see so much Tolkien influence in other books and games and now I know and understand where elements come from.
